I've eaten a lot of Backcountry between Denver and Steamboat, and though the Denver dudes have it going on, the Steamboat employees and sandwich makers need an attitude check. My boyfriend and I popped in to grab a quick sub and get on our way to hike. There were probably 6 tables sat, most of which were 2 people, so not busy to say the least. Over half of the people in the store were waiting over 10 minutes for sandwiches. The counter guy looked extremely overwhelmed and flustered and continued to preemptively apologize to us because, "As you can see we are pretty slammed right now". Haha, I'm sorry if this comes off as cocky but my boyfriend and I both work in the industry (he is a cook so knows what busy truly means) and I would have considered their deli at that moment to be SLOW. Like boring slow. We continued to wait for our sandwiches for over 15 minutes! For two sub sandwiches! Are you shitting me?! I've gotten through a 10-person line at Jersey Mike's in like 8 minutes. My BF and I watched the stoned employees as they all had to check the menu several times for EACH individual ingredient for every sandwich as they moved at record setting slow pace. Seriously, f**king stoners who are bad at their jobs. Do they not train these people or make them memorize their own menus?? It was bizarre and a huge waste of time as both of our sandwiches were not that great and lacked flavor (and possibly ingredients), the whole experience literally setting our hike back half an hour. Not to mention this place is blasphemously expensive; plan on paying $10 for a pretty generic sub. This is my second slow-as-molasses service experience at Steamboat's Backcountry. Probably will not return.

The sandwiches are a little on the pricey side, but they're very good and it's nice to support a local chain. Employees were very friendly and offered advice for things to do around town.

first there is no good food in this town, just ask the cops. this place charges 10 plus for a good product but most people can make a better one for 5 dollars at home save your money steamboat is all about greed.

Backcountry is a great lunch location in downtown Steamboat. I'm not sure if they're affiliated with the Denver location, but I'm going to assume so since they both offer very high quality grub and ironically share the EXACT same name! Anyway, I was at a volleyball tournament, famished from running around in sand a lot and occasionally jumping and stuff when I happened upon my trusted Yelp application to tell where to go. (for lunch) I got the special for the day which included this fantastic list of ingredients: bread, assorted vegetables, turkey, bacon and a fancy spread called aioli. The combination was really good and you can tell they take pride in their high-quality ingredients. They also have a very good potato salad, and I'm a bit picky on that stuff. Finally, their cookies are big and delicious as well. The service, although it was packed was quite good, seating was scarce because it was so busy and it's a higher-priced lunch location which may stem from it being in downtown Steamboat, or from the high quality ingredients, but probably both. Either way, it's worth both the wait and the price IMO if you're looking for a great tasting and somewhat healthy lunch.

We had lunch here and the turkey sandwiches were outstanding. The service was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Poor service, poor (no) seating, poor portions, and plain out bad food. For a trouser troubling price. I spent $20 bucks almost for two sandwiches and a small drink, I also had a buy one get one half off coupon. I will never come back. The greek place next door is good for a much better price, there is also a reportedly good hot dog stand out front, and a FANTASTIC little place called winoas next door, thats the place to go.

Best in town when it comes to a filling and fresh tasting sandwich. Staff is friendly and I am satisfied every time I leave. Try out the country road and the ridge line sandwiches, you will not be disappointed!

Pilgrim turkey and the soup of the day, iced tea. Nice complement to a casual bike ride along the Yampa with family. Pleasant staff, reasonably quick. Perfect summer lunch out. Check out the soups.

I used to love going here. Now, not so much. Ordered sandwich, waiting...a customer comes in behind me - they make his sandwich 1st, still waiting, person who came in behind me is half way done with his sandwich, I am late from lunch break.

It's OK food, not great it's also expensive lunch for 2 usually $25+ The Pilgrim is not worth the $9.50 they charge... Good service from friendly people. I'm seriously wondering if the people who rave about the place are just really hungry or what. Again it's OK, not great by any stretch of the imagination but great location fun atmosphere.

What a fantastic spot. The sandwich I had was phenomenal. Big shout out to Dave behind the register who could write the customer service bible. That goes for the guys in the kitchen as well who came out to make sure the sandwich was up to par. Great work all around. Will certainly be back next time to steamboat.

They make good (small) sandwiches but don't be in a hurry to get one. Had to wait 25 minutes for 1 Italian sandwich & sandwich/soup combo. The food was good but haven't been back since. The Greek place down stairs is Way better altogether.

Delicious food and friendly staff. Perfect place to stop and get a quick bite. The Pilgrim is a must try. With stuffing and cranberry, it's like Thanksgiving all over again! Tables and chairs were a little old and wobbly, but the food makes up for that.

A friend of mine let me borrow his snowboarding helmet and was telling me about an awesome deli in downtown Steamboat. To return the favor, I asked a few locals about the best sandwich shop in town, and they all said the same place: Backcountry Provisions. I went in to get my buddy a gift certificate and left with three sandwiches and homemade potato salad. I recommend the Ridgeline (get it toasted), a steaming pile of roasted turkey, sharp cheddar, honey cured bacon, avocado, tomato, romaine lettuce, and garlic mayo. I'm getting hungry just typing this. If you are in Steamboat, you have to try this place. Get a couple sandwiches and some potato salad to bring to countryside picnics, hiking, and skiing.

This place is AMAZING. Awesome sandwiches- very unique, fresh and delicious. Owner is a great guy too. He'll bring your food downstairs to The Barley so you can have a beer with food. Highly recommend. We all came twice during our week in the Boat. Must try beef jerky too!

I used to frequent Backcountry, growing up in Steamboat. However, my experience today was so unexpected and awful I'm amazed it's the same place. I ordered two breakfast sandwiches, the EBLT and the Little Italy. Both seemed to be microwaved (including the Ciabatta) leaving them a chewy dried out mess. I understand this may not be their strong suit so I'll give them that, however when I entered at 9:45 am the music blaring was some sort of techno hip hop that I was forced to yell over to pick up my sandwich order. All in all a terrible experience topped off by no ice in the soda machine for my Iced Tea, I left without even mentioning it since it seemed they had better things to do. Probably not going back any time soon...

We ordered BLT breakfast sandwich and a Cuban. Sandwiches came out hot and delicious. Super friendly staff. Definitely go back if we visit Steamboat again.

Visited this deli on a holiday weekend with a busy crowd in the downtown area. Even though the dining area is small and may be fairly limited, it is worth it! The build your own sandwich option makes it acceptable for even the pickiest eaters. The veggies and meats seemed fresh and you can even see them making assembling your sandwich. Fairly priced for a popular ski town and a great option for a nice and light lunch! Highly recommended.

I love going here for breakfast and lunch! Everyone knows my name and gives the same level of service that you get when the owner is waiting on you first hand. Great food! Great service!
